The design of these works had to redefine the environmental and functional quality of a public space which, through the history of urban development of the city, was one of the most significant nodes thanks to its attractiveness toward economic activities and therefore of public and private traffic. The achievement of this objective was also bound by the need to respect the aesthetics of the square, designed by Micelucci. The solution chosen therefore meets the needs related to reorganisation of city mobility and the refunctionalisation of the Santa Maria Novella station.
